PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – Feeling healthy does not guarantee freedom from Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection.

The virus, which often escapes attention because it does not always cause symptoms, can increase the risk of several types of cancer.

Therefore, RSUD Pandega Pangandaran urges the public to increase vigilance and not to be easily swayed by myths about HPV.

Through a post on its official Instagram account, @rsud_pangandaran, RSUD Pandega corrected several misconceptions about HPV infection, from the belief that people without symptoms are certainly healthy to the idea that the virus only affects women.

The Director of RSUD Pandega Pangandaran, dr. Titi Sutiamah, explained that most HPV infections do not cause symptoms.

The virus can remain in the body for years unnoticed, meaning a person may not realize they have been infected.

This situation makes prevention and education crucial. After all, waiting for symptoms to appear is not a wise step to safeguard health.

Another myth that needs correction is the belief that HPV only threatens women because it is linked to reproductive organs. In reality, men can also become infected and transmit the virus.

HPV infection is linked to the risk of cancer in various parts of the body, including the genital area, throat, and anus.

Thus, protection against HPV is not just a woman’s concern, but a shared responsibility.

On the other hand, RSUD Pandega emphasized that the risk of HPV infection leading to cancer can be reduced through preventive measures, one of which is HPV vaccination.

“Early HPV immunization for both girls and boys is considered one of the main ways to prevent HPV infection. Administering immunization at an early age can also provide long-term protection against HPV infection,” Titi said recently.

According to her, HPV immunization plays a crucial role in helping protect the public from cervical cancer as well as several other cancers related to HPV, including cancers in specific areas such as the mouth and anus.

RSUD Pandega also reminded the public not to wait until health problems arise before starting to take preventive measures.

Correct understanding of HPV needs to be built from an early age, including by seeking health information from reliable sources and consulting with medical professionals.
