JH’s WEBTOON comic The Boxer will be adapted into a TV anime. A special announcement trailer debuted at the Crunchyroll Showcase, revealing the main cast and production team at New York Comic Con 2026.

Koki Uchiyama portrays Yu, the main character, a boxer with extraordinary natural talent that propels him quickly up the rankings. Kensho Ono voices Ryu, another naturally gifted boxer who faces Yu early on. Tomokazu Seki takes on the role of legendary trainer K, who spots Yu’s massive potential, and Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices J, a retired legendary boxer.

Crunchyroll describes the story:

A monstrous talent. Is it a blessing or a curse? K, a renowned trainer who has forged many world champions, is on the hunt for his ultimate student. He stumbles upon Yu, a boy in an alley who passively endures blows without showing anger or fight. Despite Yu’s lack of aggression, K recognizes a talent far beyond ordinary genius—an unfathomable potential.

Guided by K, Yu enters the ring, wielding a power so intense it borders on monstrous, and climbs toward boxing’s highest tier. Opposing him are champions whose perfected skills are their pride, and warriors who have surmounted talent limits through relentless effort. Both cling to dreams they won’t give up and reasons to keep fighting. Their battles with the “monster” destabilize the very foundations of the lives they have built.

What does Yu truly seek behind his fists? The life of this “monster” becomes entwined with those who confront him. Beyond talent, effort, glory, and defeat, a tale unfolds—one that probes the essence of true strength.

Yudai Kubota and KANG Wonyeong helm the direction of the series. Masahiro Suwa designs the characters, and Toshiya Ono oversees the series composition and scriptwriting. Production is shared between breccia—a fresh studio launched by Kinema Citrus alum Muneki Ogasawara—and the South Korean studio STUDIO JEMI.

The Boxer first appeared on South Korea’s NAVER WEBTOON in 2019, later moving to Japan’s LINE Manga where it ran from 2020 to 2022. Worldwide, the series has logged over 1.06 billion views. A Japanese print edition, adapted from the original vertical, full‑color web format, has been released under Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint, totaling six volumes.

This anime is part of the new collaborative effort between HAYATE, LINE Digital Frontier, and Crunchyroll, aiming to adapt roughly fifteen WEBTOON titles into anime.
