It was founded by The Chung Shen on July 1, 1949, and its name changed from Java Pos to Djawa Pos before finally becoming Jawa Pos. During the 1970s to early 1980s, its business declined and circulation dropped to about 6,700 copies per day. The turning point came when Jawa Pos was sold to PT Grafiti Pers in 1982, and Eric Samola appointed Dahlan Iskan to lead it. Under Dahlan’s leadership, the newspaper recovered and grew rapidly, evolving from a regional to a national publication.

Qualifications:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in any field
- Strong writing skills: ability to produce news articles quickly, accurately, and according to journalistic standards, demonstrated by a portfolio or previous coverage work
- Capable of on‑site reporting and meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with photo and video editing software
- Skilled at identifying, researching, and developing news topics that are timely, engaging, and relevant to readers
