PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – An extended dry season in Pangandaran Regency is starting to impact school activities. A clean water shortage is now being experienced at SMK Negeri 1 Padaherang, which is attended by around 1,700 students.

Six well points that have served as the school’s water source are beginning to lose their flow.

Currently, only three to four wells are still producing water. This situation has caused water distribution to various school facilities to no longer function normally.

The Vice Principal for Facilities and Infrastructure at SMKN 1 Padaherang, Teguh, stated that several wells have begun to dry up.

Meanwhile, the remaining wells must be used alternately to meet the school’s needs.

“Several locations have started to dry up, while others, thank God, still have water,” said Teguh on Wednesday (7/10/2026).

That situation forced the school to reconfigure its water installation. Some tanks that were previously supplied by specific wells are now empty because their water source has dried up.

“How can we from the facilities team manage to supply all existing water channels with limited sources? It’s certainly not evenly distributed, so a reinstallation is necessary,” he said.

Some surviving water sources are located in front of the school near the mosque, behind the canteen area, and at the back of the school. Water from these points is then distributed alternately.

The problem is most acute in toilet facilities. Not all toilets receive water supply, causing students to queue at toilets that still have water.

“Naturally, many students complained about having to queue in the restrooms because the available water was limited,” he said.

To reduce congestion, the school introduced a system of dividing toilets by department. Certain toilets are allocated for students from specific departments so that queues are not concentrated in one location.

“We have a trick. We label students according to their department. For example, the TKJ department over there; the toilet there is reserved specifically for the TKJ department. This is to anticipate overcrowding,” explained Teguh.

The water issue is not limited to toilets. Water is also needed for ablution, office activities, practical work in the workshop, and even vehicle washing.
