Cygames, Inc. has extended its collaboration with the Breeders’ Cup for the third year in a row. As part of the deal, the weekend’s short‑distance race will carry the name Cygames Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
The Grade 1 contest is slated for Saturday, October 31, at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, within the 43rd Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The event features a $2 million prize pool and welcomes Thoroughbreds three years old and above. Competitors will race six furlongs (1,200 meters) on a dirt track.
The Breeders’ Cup disclosed that Cygames will boost its on‑site visibility with photographs and illustrations of Japanese thoroughbreds. In addition, a full‑size statue of Forever Young will be placed at Keeneland Race Course. The company’s logo will appear on the starting gate and on the saddle towels worn by the racehorses.
Heather Higgins, the Breeders’ Cup Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnership, said
“We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Cygames and build upon a relationship that connects two organizations with increasingly global audiences. Japan has become an important part of the Breeders’ Cup story, and Cygames has been a tremendous partner in helping us celebrate that connection in creative and engaging ways. We look forward to bringing their expanded activation to fans at Keeneland this fall.”
The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships feature 13 additional Grade 1 events alongside the Cygames Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Multiple characters from Umamusume: Pretty Derby have achieved placements or victories in Breeders’ Cup competitions.
- Loves Only You — claimed 1st spot at the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, becoming the inaugural Japanese equine victor of a Breeders’ Cup race.
- Marche Lorraine — secured 2nd position at the 2021 Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
- Forever Young — earned 1st prize at the 2025 Longines Breeders’ Cup.
Susumu Fujita, chairman and founder of CyberAgent (the parent firm of Cygames), is the owner of Forever Young. Although Forever Young will be back to protect his championship, none of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby equines will take part in the Cygames Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Tickets for general admission begin at $85.
Cygames both developed and holds ownership of Umamusume: Pretty Derby. This multimedia series portrays personified representations of actual racing steeds.
