Currently, the world is marking World Space Week. As part of that observance, The Pokémon Company and the European Space Agency (ESA) are unveiling the core of their joint World Space Week initiative: the Field Research and Wild Encounters gameplay in Pokémon GO. These two gaming events run from October 4 through October 10 at selected European museums.

During the Field Research event, players of Pokémon GO who rotate the PokéStops at the partner museums will activate World Space Week‑themed Field Research assignments. When those assignments are finished, participants receive event‑specific Pokémon, a few of which feature unique backdrops. The Wild Encounter event boosts the likelihood of spotting particular Pokémon in the skies near the collaborating museums. The Pokémon that can appear are:

  • Pikachu
  • Blipbug
  • Clefairy
  • Elgyem
  • Lunatone
  • Magnemite
  • Solrock
  • Starmie

  • ESA ECSAT (Harwell, UK)
  • ESA ESAC (Madrid, Spain)
  • ESA ESEC (Redu, Belgium)
  • ESA ESRIN (Frascati, Italy)
  • ESA ESOC (Darmstadt, Germany)
  • ESA ESTEC (Noordwijk, Netherlands)

Other participating museums include:

  • Cité de l’espace – Toulouse, France
  • Deutsches Museum – Nuremberg, Germany
  • Euro Space Center – Transinne, Belgium
  • Museu de les Ciències – València, Spain
  • Science Museum – London, England
  • Space Expo – Noordwijk, Netherlands

The Pokémon Company previously revealed the partnership. It also incorporates an extended Raid gameplay segment. That Raid event will be hosted at the partnering museums between October 4, 2026, and April 30, 2027. Players who finish the Raids will be able to catch Astronaut Pikachu. Earlier in the year, Pikachu logged 67 days aboard the International Space Station. French astronaut Sophie Adenot carried the Pikachu plush into space. During that stay, Pikachu circled the Earth more than 1,000 times.

World Space Week is a yearly observance honoring space exploration, observed from October 4 to 10. The United Nations established World Space Week in 1999 to commemorate the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967. This year’s focus, “Rocket Revolution,” spotlights the innovations that carried humanity into space.
