Thecuy.com, Jakarta – The head of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, issued a stern rebuke to Bakom’s deputy, Timothy Ivan, following public criticism over the lavish lifestyle displayed. Qodari also cautioned all Bakom officials to be mindful of their social media use and to curb public showcases of extravagant living.
At a press conference held at Bakom’s headquarters in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (30/9/2026), Qodari reaffirmed his willingness to confront allegations he deemed as sabotage attempts against his agency. He acknowledged, however, that he had reprimanded the deputy and reminded all deputies to uphold proper conduct and public image.
Emphasizing Ethics and Public Perception
Muhammad Qodari stated that, even during his tenure at the Presidential Chief of Staff’s Office (KSP), he had been aware of the expectations and norms governing public officials’ lifestyles. He cited the wearing of a Seiko watch as an example of simplicity and discretion in personal presentation.
“The public has certain expectations of officials, so it is essential for us to exercise restraint and avoid overt displays of opulence,” Qodari remarked.
Apology and Commitment to Improvement
In addition to reprimanding the deputy, Qodari extended an apology for his failure to earlier alert Bakom staff about these guidelines. He personally apologized if he or his family had inadvertently exhibited luxurious living since joining the government.
Qodari affirmed that he had instructed his family to maintain decorous behavior and appearance while engaging in official activities, yet he acknowledged that mistakes could happen and are human.

During the same event, the head of Bakom underscored the importance of caution in social media use among all deputies and staff. He warned that public exposure, particularly via social platforms, must be managed to prevent negative public perceptions.
