TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – A number of farmers belonging to the Cineam Local Farmers Organization (OTL) of the Pasundan Farmers Union (SPP) conducted an Istisqa prayer on the former plantation land of PT Wiria Cakra, located in Tanjungsari Hamlet, Nagar Tengah Village, Cineam District, Tasikmalaya Regency, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Amid the persistent drought, the farmers gathered to implore rain. The optional prayer served as a spiritual practice for the cultivators whose livelihoods and crop yields depend on the land they work.
Eris Ruawandi, chairman of OTL SPP Cineam, said dozens of farmers participated in the Istisqa prayer with devotion. According to him, the event was not only a plea for rain but also a prayer for the fertility and blessing of the farmland for the farmers.
Concerns have been raised over the Papayan-Cikalong portal, with businessmen calling for unrestricted legal trucks. Meanwhile, the Tasikmalaya Regency Ministry of Religious Affairs has partnered with KPAID to develop a formula for addressing bullying in madrasas.
“The Istisqa prayer is our joint effort to ask Allah SWT for immediate rain, so that our farmland can receive water again and produce good yields,” Eris said.
Beyond the drought issue, the gathering also served as an opportunity to enhance cooperation among farmers in managing the contested land. Member solidarity was deemed essential to sustain agricultural activities and the agrarian reform struggle in the Cineam area.
“This also serves as a moment to strengthen camaraderie and solidarity among farmers in safeguarding and defending the contested land,” he said.
The event proceeded orderly and solemnly. After the prayer, the farmers continued with a collective supplication asking for safety, rainfall, fertile land, and abundant harvests.
The prayer also embodies the hope that agricultural activities on the contested land can continue despite the drought and the ongoing agrarian reform struggle in Cineam. (yfi)
