Hundreds of junior high school students from various areas of the regency displayed their creativity at the Gebyar Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) event, themed “Making Tasikmalaya Regency Waste‑Free”.
The activity, organized by the Tasikmalaya Regency Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud), took place at the Graha Nanjung Auditorium, Cintaraja, Singaparna, on Tuesday (29/9/2026). Participants presented various projects designed to address waste‑management challenges in their local environment.
Through the STEAM approach, students not only learn scientific and technological concepts but are also guided to develop practical solutions to the environmental problems faced by the community.

Lala Heryana SSTP MSi, Assistant for General Administration (Asda III) of the Tasikmalaya Regency Regional Secretary (Setda), expressed the regional government’s appreciation for the junior high school STEAM event.
In her view, the activity is closely linked to the situation in Tasikmalaya Regency, which continues to grapple with waste‑management challenges.
“This STEAM event is highly relevant to the waste problem in Tasikmalaya Regency,” she said during an interview with Thecuy.com at the venue.
Environmental management, particularly waste issues, is a key focus of the regional development plan outlined in the Tasikmalaya Regency Medium‑Term Development Plan (RPJMD)
Beyond improving human‑resource quality, the regional government also prioritizes environmental concerns as a main development focus moving forward.
Lala noted that the current waste‑management capacity remains limited relative to the scale of problems that need to be addressed.
Therefore, the regional government, in collaboration with the central government, is advancing the construction of waste‑management facilities to bolster the overall environmental management system.

To tackle waste issues, the Tasikmalaya Regency government is preparing to build two waste‑management facilities: one at the Nangkaleah TPA area in Mangunreja District and another in Manonjaya District.
This infrastructure development is one of the government’s efforts to enhance the region’s capacity to manage waste more effectively.
However, the effort does not rely solely on waste‑processing facilities.
