Through the Waste‑to‑Electricity Processing (PSEL) initiative, the regional government aims to turn an environmental problem into an alternative energy source.
The initiative received backing from the Gebyar Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) program organized by the Tasikmalaya Regency Education and Culture Office on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The event, themed “Realizing a Waste‑Free Tasikmalaya Regency” and involving junior high school students, is deemed to align with the government’s effort to introduce more modern and sustainable waste‑management innovations.
The SMP‑level STEAM festival is highly pertinent to the waste challenges faced by Tasikmalaya Regency. Regarding the SMP STEAM event in Tasikmalaya Regency, Usman Kusmana notes: Solutions emerge from tangible work.
One of the strategic programs currently in preparation is the construction of a PSEL facility in Manonjaya District, Tasikmalaya Regency. This facility forms part of the government’s effort to address waste issues while generating electricity through waste processing.
The Chairman of the Tasikmalaya Regency DPRD Faction, Dr. Usman Kusmana SAg MSi, stated that the waste problem is one of the primary challenges that requires immediate and serious attention.
In his view, central government concern about regional waste issues is increasing through the national strategic PSEL program. Tasikmalaya Regency is among the areas currently making various preparations to support the program’s implementation, especially in Manonjaya District.
In addition to building the Manonjaya PSEL facility, the government is also reinforcing the infrastructure of the final disposal site (TPA) in Nangkaleah, Sukasukur Village, Mangunreja District.
These two programs constitute a major government initiative to improve the waste‑management system in Tasikmalaya Regency. The investment allocated for the infrastructure development amounts to nearly Rp 1 trillion.
The waste‑to‑electricity program demonstrates the government’s commitment to finding long‑term solutions. Waste is no longer seen merely as an environmental problem but also as a potential resource that can be reused.
During the Gebyar STEAM SMP event in Tasikmalaya Regency, Usman urged students not only to be technology users but also to create innovations that can address local issues.
The Tasikmalaya Regency STEAM festival motivates junior high school pupils to develop waste‑solution inventions. Additionally, five unlimited WiFi providers in Tasikmalaya ensure smooth streaming and gaming experiences.
In his opinion, STEAM activities provide a learning environment for young people to develop abilities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics to confront real‑world challenges, including waste issues.
