TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – An attempt to rescue a friend who was drowning ended in disaster.
The 16-year-old, Muhammad Salman Rajib Sidik, was found dead after drowning in the Citanduy River at Kampung Sukanagara, Purbaratu District, Tasikmalaya City, on Sunday evening (27/9/2026).
The incident occurred while the victim and three companions were swimming in the Citanduy River.
According to the incident report, the group left home at around 13.00 WIB.

At around 14.30 WIB, one of the victim’s friends, Muhammad Azid Pangestu, was reported to be drowning. Salman then tried to assist Azid.
However, the rescue attempt caused Salman to also be dragged and drown.
Azid was eventually rescued by another friend using a piece of wood as aid.
Meanwhile, Salman disappeared in the river. The incident report was received at around 16.06 WIB.
The Head of Tasikmalaya City BPBD, Budi Martanova, confirmed the incident. A joint search team then conducted operations at the site.
The search took place in fairly steep terrain. The distance from the parking area to the drowning site is approximately 520 meters.
“Yes, the incident occurred. The victim has been evacuated and the body was taken to RSUD dr Soekardjo. The autopsy is now finished,” Budi said when contacted by Radar.
The Cibeureum Police Chief, AKP Iwan Sujarwo, said that the police received a report from the public after Asr prayers.

“Just after Asr prayers, we received a report from residents that a victim had drowned in the Citanduy River, precisely in Kampung Subanagara, Purbaratu District,” Iwan said.
After receiving the report, officers proceeded to the location and coordinated with the Inafis unit of Tasikmalaya City Police, BPBD, and local residents.
“And we conducted a search, thank goodness we found him just as the maghrib call to prayer began,” he said.
Iwan explained that, according to witness statements, the victim was swimming with his friends.
“Witnesses reported that the victim was swimming with friends. As soon as they crossed to the opposite bank, they drowned,” he clarified.
The victim was eventually found at around 17.40 WIB. After evacuation, he was taken to Tasikmalaya City Hospital at approximately 17.55 WIB.
Iwan said the medical examination results indicated the victim had passed away.
“After the discovery, the medical check declared the victim deceased,” he said.
