Official website of the anime adaptation based on the light novel series From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru: Tada no Inaka no Kenjutsu Shihan Datta noni, Taisei Shita Deshitachi ga Ore o Hottekurenai Ken) has announced that a third season is in production as of Wednesday, September 23, 2026. This announcement came right after the broadcast of episode 12, which wrapped up the second season, and it was accompanied by a new promotional visual and a video message from the voice actor who plays Beryl Gardenant, Hiroaki Hirata.
The anime’s second season aired from July 8, 2026, on TV Asahi’s “IMAnimation W” block and is available worldwide exclusively on Amazon Prime Video’s streaming service. The season’s creative team, including director Akio Kazumi at Passione and Hayabusa Film, has been retained, with scriptwriting by Kunihiko Okada, character design by Satsuki Hayasaka, and music composition by Yasuharu Takanashi.
The series is based on a light novel written by Shigeru Sagazaki, illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, which initially appeared on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in November 2020 before being printed by Square Enix. It follows Beryl Gardinant, a middle-aged sword instructor in a remote village who unexpectedly becomes a special trainer for the elite knights of the Liberion Order, reuniting him with former students who have now become great heroes and wizards.
