TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – About a hundred students from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Siliwangi (Unsil), staged a protest outside the Tasikmalaya City Hall on Wednesday (23/9/2026). The demonstration was held as part of the reflection of National Farmers’ Day (HTN), which falls on today, September 24.

During their speeches, the protesters raised several issues they believe still haunt the agricultural sector in Tasikmalaya City. These range from the increasingly widespread conversion of agricultural land, regulations concerning Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B), government support for farmers, and food security concerns.

Students argued that land regulation issues also contribute to the conversion of land use. They questioned the implementation of agricultural land protection in Tasikmalaya City, including the LP2B policy that has been incorporated into local government regulations.

Sekda says it’s simple, mayor says it’s varied! Arief Arseha’s politics of smiles!

The protest’s coordinator, Rendi Mulyana, said the government must guarantee that farmers’ rights are truly realized. He believes that agricultural issues are not only about food production but also about farmers’ livelihoods and the protection of agricultural land.

“One of the problems in Tasikmalaya City relates to land regulations. The high number of land conversion cases occurs because of issues and overlapping regulations,” Rendi said during his speech on Wednesday (23/9/2026).

He assessed that the ongoing conversion of land could shrink the area available for farmers to cultivate. This situation could ultimately affect farmers’ ability to meet their livelihood needs while maintaining food availability.

Students also highlighted the relatively limited land ownership among farmers. They questioned how food security could be achieved if the land owned and cultivated by farmers continues to shrink.

“How can food security be optimal if the land owned by farmers is only about 0.5 hectares?” Rendi asked.

The student demonstration began around 2:00 PM WIB. The protesters asked the local government to bring relevant officials and agencies to engage in a direct dialogue about the agricultural issues they raised. However, the protest was somewhat tense as several expected officials, including Tasikmalaya Mayor Viman Alfarizi Ramadhan, did not meet with the crowd.

The crowd was later met by the Acting Regional Assistant I of Tasikmalaya City, Ade Hendar. Nevertheless, the students continued to demand that the previously invited officials and relevant local agencies attend and provide direct explanations.
