PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – A sign has been erected at Pangandaran Beach tourist site, stating a ban on smoking and a fine of Rp 50 million.
This is because Pangandaran Beach has been included in the Smoke-Free Area (KTR). Violators face a maximum imprisonment of 6 months or a fine of up to Rp50 million.
As stipulated, the regulation is based on Pangandaran Regency Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2021 concerning Smoke-Free Areas (KTR).

The appearance of the sign immediately sparked mixed reactions among netizens. Some questioned the enforcement of a smoking ban in open tourist areas, while others supported it for visitor comfort.
According to tourism activist Aef Rohman (47), the smoking ban sign is seen as contradictory to the situation in several spots of Pangandaran Beach tourist area, where cigarette product ads or promotions are still present.
“He wondered, ‘It feels like there’s nothing to do. What’s the purpose? To drive visitors away? There are many smokers and cigarette sellers there,’ he told the reporter on Tuesday (22/9/2026).”
He, representing other business owners, hopes that the sign is accompanied by an explanation of which areas are smoke-free and how the regulation is applied in Pangandaran Beach tourist area.
Another resident, Gito (36), said that there needs to be an explanation from the Pangandaran Regional Government regarding the smoking ban area. ‘It should be explained in detail to tourists or the public,’ he said.
At present, Radar has not received confirmation about the existence of the smoking ban sign from the relevant agency. (Deni Nurdiansah)
