Thecuy.com, Scotland – A surveillance device placed by Liz Shanks to watch her pet and discourage intruders unintentionally captured multiple incidents of domestic violence allegedly committed by her then‑boyfriend Chris Forrest.

The video, recorded by a camera aimed at the dog inside the residence, depicts Forrest repeatedly pinning down and strangling Shanks, while his threatening words can be heard. Shanks provided the recordings to law enforcement in 2020.

Police called the footage extremely troubling, launching a criminal probe that resulted in Forrest’s conviction in 2022. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to the abuse that occurred from July 2017 through August 2020.

The incident demonstrates how everyday security devices can reveal concealed abuse, furnishing vital proof for victims and police. It also underscores the need for readily available recording tools in addressing domestic violence.

Advocacy groups emphasize that victims should receive assistance in retaining such evidence, and officials are encouraged to regard any security recording with the gravity it warrants.

Shanks, who now lives in Blantyre, hopes her story will inspire others to reach out for assistance and leverage existing technology to safeguard themselves.
