GARUT, Thecuy.com – The 2026 Garut Sheep Agility Art (SKDG) Liga Garut and Livestock Contest was held at Pamidangan Lembah Gunung Guntur Anugrah, Jalan Ibrahim Adjie, Tarogong Kaler District, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin stated that raising Garut sheep should not only focus on meat production but also require proper care.
Syakur said that well-cared-for sheep would be directly proportional to higher prices.

“If the sheep are well‑raised with kindness and love, their price will be good, God willing, and this will boost the economic growth of Garut Regency,” he said.
Syakur believes that the event, which covers West Java Province, serves not only as a gathering place for sheep enthusiasts.
Moreover, it can stimulate the community’s economic growth. “Sheep are unique creatures; they appear strong, with large horns, just as we all seek to demonstrate our strength,” he said.
In the future, he is committed to promoting similar events on a broader scale by collaborating with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) and involving the Department of Tourism and Culture (Disparbud).
According to Syakur, the distinctive Garut sheep culture unique to Garut and West Java is expected to positively impact the community’s welfare and preserve local traditions.
Meanwhile, Asep Rahwanto, Secretary General of the Garut Indonesian Sheep and Goat Farmers Association (HPDKI), explained that the event finale was the concluding round of nine league matches previously held at eight different venues.
He explained that this year’s sheep agility contest involved 461 sheep divided into Class A (143 head), Class B (143 head), and Class C (175 head).

Participants came from various regions, including Sumedang, Pangandaran, and Bandung.
In addition to the agility contest, the event also featured a local livestock contest exclusively for Garut Regency farmers, comprising five categories with a total of 170 animals.
The categories included: King Petet Non Poel (59 head), King Petet One Pair Poel (55 head), King Prospective Sire or King Kasep two pairs Poel (33 head), King Feeder two pairs Poel (8 head), and Queen Seed two pairs Poel (15 head).
