Thecuy.com, Bandung – PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) assumes a key role in advancing digital sovereignty within Indonesia’s higher education sector by participating in the Indonesia Higher Education CIO Forum 2026, which was held from 31 August to 1 September 2026 at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

The forum focused on the theme “Empowering PDDikti through IDREN Collaboration Advancing IT Governance, Cyber Resilience, and Operational Excellence”, addressing crucial topics such as information technology governance, research and education network connectivity, cyber resilience, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) within higher education institutions.

Peran Telkom dalam Memperkuat Digitalisasi Pendidikan Tinggi

The Director of Strategic Business Development Portfolio at Telkom, Seno Soemadji, stated that digital transformation in higher education is an essential requirement to prepare for the digital era and quantum computing, as well as to confront increasingly complex technological disruptions.

According to him, the technology required for this transformation is already available, yet the digital divide among campuses remains a challenge. A pentahelix collaboration involving government, universities, industry, community, and media is essential to jointly address this issue with more efficient costs and enhanced security.

Kesiapan Digital dan Dampaknya

Seno highlighted that digital readiness of universities now serves as a critical indicator in accreditation assessments, graduate employment rates, and research reputation. Leveraging the Indonesia Research and Education Network (IDREN) as a shared foundation, Telkom collaborates with various stakeholders to bridge this gap using a national data model, along with facilities such as a Security Operation Center (SOC) and a Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).

Antisipasi Era Komputasi Kuantum

The forum also highlighted security threats in the quantum era, particularly the “harvest now, decrypt later” risk, where currently encrypted data could be collected and decrypted in the future using quantum technology, thereby jeopardizing student identity data and research intellectual property.

In response, Telkom developed a quantum-safe network architecture that integrates Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), and Zero-Trust Architecture to enhance network security from access points to data centers. An inventory of cryptographic assets and a migration plan to PQC are slated as initial steps, targeting completion before 2030.

Strategi Telkom dalam Mendukung Pendidikan Tinggi

  • Infrastruktur Digital Nasional: Telkom operates a national digital infrastructure comprising 112,000 kilometers of fiber‑optic network and a 26,000‑kilometer domestic Submarine Communications Cable System (SKKL) through its InfraNexia service, forming the backbone of Indonesia’s digital connectivity.
  • Inovasi dan Riset Kampus: Telkom drives campus innovation by establishing joint laboratories, testbeds, and supporting the commercialization pathway for research outcomes from higher education institutions to the market.
  • Akses Teknologi Mutakhir: Telkom forms strategic global partnerships and offers consumption‑based investment models (OPEX), while also facilitating research funding to promote technology development within academic environments.

Implementasi Nyata

Telkom has introduced several products and initiatives as a demonstration of its commitment, including AI solutions for multiple universities, a pre‑launch of a digital sovereignty platform that merges AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, and the Digistar Class program designed to accelerate digital transformation by cultivating Indonesian digital talent within higher education.

The intensified collaboration and innovation spearheaded by Telkom are anticipated to establish a robust digital foundation for Indonesia’s higher education sector and to foster a sovereign, secure, and digitally intelligent Indonesia.
