TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com— Healthy political understanding among the public strengthens democratic values, especially during elections. This education is not limited to election organizers or political parties; it involves the entire population.

The partnership established by the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) of Tasikmalaya City together with the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) of Tasikmalaya City aims to enhance the participation of students and the community in election monitoring.

The agreement focuses not only on monitoring activities during the electoral period but also on cultivating public political awareness from an early stage.

IMM believes that students occupy a strategic position to disseminate electoral knowledge and to encourage the public to become more critical of democratic processes.

Satria Guruh, Chairman of IMM Tasikmalaya City, stated that the partnership serves as a measure to broaden the role of IMM cadres within the community. To date, student organizations are considered to possess ample opportunity to engage in political education through discussions, studies, and community service activities.

“As a student organization with a solid cadre base and network within society, IMM has the potential to become part of a political education and participatory oversight movement,” Satria told Radar on Monday (31/8/2026).

Through this collaboration, IMM and Bawaslu can develop various activities, encompassing electoral discussions, seminars, political education, analysis of democratic issues, and outreach programs aimed at preventing money politics.

The Participatory Monitoring Education Program (P2P) is one of the priority initiatives slated by IMM for the near future. The activities will target students and the community, covering topics related to elections, democracy, voter rights and obligations, as well as election monitoring mechanisms.

To IMM, election monitoring should not be the sole responsibility of the organizing body. Public participation is essential to extend oversight and to avert potential violations that may arise during the electoral process.

Consequently, IMM cadres will not merely serve as participants in electoral education activities. They are expected to act as educational facilitators within campus and community settings after receiving training from Bawaslu.
