TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Some schools are bustling because they have many students. Other schools are bustling because they have many teachers.
SMP Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya has both. The student body is large, and the teaching staff is also substantial. Managing such a school is certainly not like arranging a row of chairs inside a classroom.
Humans are not chairs. Students have feelings. Teachers have challenges. Parents have expectations. And the school stands in the middle of it all. That is where the journey of Hj Affi Endah Navillah, the principal of SMP Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya, becomes interesting.

She is not just talking about a well-ordered school. She is leading the school to ask deeper questions: do children feel safe while at school? Are they comfortable to study, ask questions, hold different opinions, and even complain when facing problems?
Those questions eventually took shape in a documentary film titled “Creating a Safe and Comfortable School”. The film is not merely a record of school programs; it documents a process.
Because a safe and comfortable school cannot be established by a single decree from the principal. It is not enough to post slogans on the walls. Especially not by merely telling students: “Don’t fight.” Safety and comfort must become a culture. And culture requires habit.
Minister of Education Regulation No. 6 of 2026 provides a clear framework: schools must consider four dimensions. Physically safe. Spiritually safe. Psychologically comfortable. And safe in the digital space.
These four aspects may sound simple. However, implementing them in a school with a large student population is not a simple task.
One policy that drew attention was the restriction on mobile phone usage within the school environment. In an era where cell phones have become like an extra body part, limiting their use is certainly not an easy matter.
However, SMP Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya discovered something that had been lost. When mobile phones were no longer the center of attention, the children resumed playing.

Traditional games reappeared. Books were reopened. Interaction among students became more tangible. Children who were previously busy staring at screens slowly began to look at their friends’ faces again.
There lies a small irony in modern life. Technology was created to make humans more connected. But sometimes humans must step away from technology for a while in order to truly connect.
