TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Alleged attempts at religious conversion using free healing sessions reportedly targeted residents of Tasikmalaya City, affecting close to 60 people.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Tasikmalaya City confirmed that the report was true.

MUI highlighted the suspected invitation to change faith directed at several Tasikmalaya City residents through what began as healing or free trips.

According to information received by MUI, around 60 individuals departed on two buses for an activity said to involve residents of Tamansari District and parts of Nagarawangi.

“Two buses, 60 people, went there,” said KH Aminudin Bustomi, Chairman of MUI Tasikmalaya City, when confirmed on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

According to him, the event was initially advertised as a healing program.

Furthermore, one of the alleged initiators and participants was a man identified as D, a civil servant (ASN).

KH Aminudin explained that the invitation was initially presented as a personal activity and therapy.

However, as it progressed, participants reportedly received free travel facilities, covering transportation and meals.

“They were invited for free healing, free bus, meals provided, accommodation also. Everything was covered for free,” he said.

The issue gained attention as, according to residents’ statements to the police, the activity was allegedly not limited to recreation or healing trips.

Residents reportedly received facilities and were then directed to activities at a place of worship with a different faith.

KH Aminudin noted that this situation needs attention because people might follow the invitation without fully understanding the activity’s true purpose from the start.

“Because of their naivety,” he said.

He considered economic factors as one of the things that needed vigilance.

Free facilities such as transportation, meals, rest places, and the possibility of receiving something upon return, he said, could be attractive to the public.

“Free healing, free car, free sleep, free meals. Sometimes you get something when you return, it’s decent,” said KH Aminudin.

Nevertheless, he stated that, based on the statements he received, the trip was only conducted once, reportedly taking place around late July 2026.
