This news first surfaced to the public after a netizen uploaded the information on TikTok on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
In his upload, the netizen gave a narrative that he became a victim of extortion.

The Department of Tourism and Culture (Disparbud) of Garut Regency continues to strive to maintain the comfort of tourists at various tourist destinations.
In response to the management issues of parking and ojek services in the Talaga Bodas Nature Tourism Area (TWA), Disparbud Garut emphasized that the enforcement measures are carried out through coordination with the management.
The Head of the Garut Regency Department of Tourism and Culture, Beni Yoga Gunasantika, explained that the Talaga Bodas tourist area, similar to Mount Papandayan, is under the authority of the central government through the Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA).
Therefore, the Garut Regency Government does not have the authority to directly intervene in its technical management.
“Regarding Talaga Bodas, its location is indeed outside our management scope. That falls under central authority (BKSDA), just like Papandayan. So we cannot directly intervene; our role is only coordination and providing appeals,” he said on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Beni said that coordination is considered important given that complaints about parking regulations and ojek operations in the area had surfaced some time ago.
Disparbud Garut took the initiative to build active communication with the management to improve the service system for tourists.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested a man suspected of committing extortion (pungli) against tourists at the Talaga Bodas Nature Tourism Area (TWA) in Garut.
Kapolsek Wanaraja AKP Abusono said that the suspected perpetrator of extortion is currently in custody and is still being questioned by investigators at the Wanaraja Police Station.
