The singer Budi Doremi just launched his newest single titled “Cinta Diri Sendiri”. It turns out the song carries a deep message that can serve as a reminder for anyone who hears it.
Yap, it’s like the saying, “You can’t always get what you want.” That’s the message Budi Doremi wants to share through his latest single.
There are times when we feel we’ve done everything right—tried to be a good person, given attention, held on, and tried to understand. Yet the person we want still doesn’t choose us. When that happens, should we try harder?
Through his newest single, “Cinta Diri Sendiri”, Budi Doremi offers a simple answer: maybe it’s time to just say, yaudah.
But the “yaudah” isn’t about being angry or trying to prove we’re okay. It’s not an encouragement to give up easily. For Budi, there are times when someone needs to realize their effort is enough and stop placing too much happiness on others.
Budi had actually kept the song for a long time. He wrote it in 2022 in Pangandaran, when he was just starting to work again after the pandemic. Four years later, when he listened to the song again with the DRM team, Budi felt its story was still relevant and perfect for the EP he’s currently working on.

<p>Behind the story of 'Cinta Diri Sendiri', there is a personal concern for Budi. He admits to being close to the tendency of pleasing others, or people‑pleasing, when someone is too used to thinking about others' needs and feelings that they sometimes forget to set boundaries for themselves.</p>
Budi feels the same pattern can appear when someone falls in love. We want the relationship to succeed so much that we unintentionally give too much to others and make them the center of our happiness.
“When we understand limits, we can save many things in our lives. There’s no need to love someone so much. It’s okay to love someone deeply, it’s okay to be very attached. But we must not forget that that person can leave, and it’s our own self that must not be left behind,” said Budi.
For Budi, in the end ‘Cinta Diri Sendiri’ also talks about learning to move on. Not just forgetting someone, but accepting when something is no longer working and knowing when to stop fighting for it.

This understanding also comes from experience. Budi once maintained a relationship longer than it should have, even though he already knew there were many things that were difficult to do together. The relationship was forced, and eventually ended up hurting.
Over time, Budi feels he can increasingly distinguish what is still worth fighting for and what should be released.
Many people may have felt, ‘I’ve done my best, but it still wasn’t enough.’ Budi sees it from a different perspective. The question is, who is doing your best for?
In his view, a relationship should work because both people have the same intention to be in it. “If that person also has the same intention as us, we will fight for something because of commitment. If there’s no commitment, why fight?”

Even though it carries a fairly reflective story, “Cinta Diri Sendiri” does not present itself as a gloomy heartbreak song. Its music feels warm and enjoyable, with touches of ukulele and violin that make the song easy to listen to.
One part Budi especially enjoys is the irony in the lyrics: when someone feels that maybe the problem is that he is ‘too good,’ while the person he likes is looking for someone who can make them cry.
There is disappointment there, but Budi chooses to laugh about it rather than continue to lament.
The same energy is brought into the music video for “Cinta Diri Sendiri”. Budi invited Ardit Erwandha, Zoul Pandjoul, and Shanika Ancita, which makes the visual of the song feel more playful and alive. Just like the song, the heartbreak story in the music video is also brought in a light and enjoyable way.

“Cinta Diri Sendiri” also becomes part of Budi’s journey towards his latest EP, which is currently about 60‑70 percent complete. The EP is planned to contain four songs that capture Budi at his current life stage, namely about family, self‑love, and how he is increasingly learning to appreciate himself without being too preoccupied with what other people say.
After about 15 years of professional work, the way Budi views his work has also changed. Now he not only thinks about whether his songs are pleasant to listen to, but also whether they can mean something to those who hear them.
That perspective makes Budi’s recent works feel closer to his own life. “Ada Untukmu”, for instance, which is the first single from the EP series, tells the story of his longing for family when his work keeps him away from home. Meanwhile “Cinta Diri Sendiri” stems from his anxiety about the habit of pleasing others and the process of learning to set boundaries for himself.
Budi isn’t trying to be someone who has answers to all life’s problems. He is only increasingly interested in bringing what he experiences, thinks, and learns into his songs.
After a dozen years in music, Budi feels he is still the same. He still likes making songs, he still likes telling stories through music. It’s just that, more and more, the stories he tells change because his life keeps moving forward.

Outside of music, Budi’s daily routine now focuses a lot on family and a life closer to nature. Since the pandemic, he and his family chose to live in Serang.
Together with his wife, Budi learned to farm and raise livestock from scratch. Some kitchen needs can now be produced by them, including eggs and some cooking ingredients. All of that was never actually planned as a life concept. They just started, learned, and lived it together.
From that life which was initially all trial and error, Budi discovered a simpler perspective. ‘If we talk about needs, it feels enough. But if we talk about desires, it’s endless,’ said Budi.
Lately, Budi has also been more serious about maintaining his health so that he can have more time with his family. In between busyness, he routinely exercises and enjoys activities in nature. One more of his favorites is fishing. For Budi, fishing is not just about catching fish, but also an opportunity to step away from his phone for a while, enjoy the sea, and accept that not everything can go according to plan.
All those experiences gradually also give color to Budi’s music. He still wants to create and has targets, but now family, health, time, and tranquility also have a more important place in his life.
Perhaps that’s why ‘Cinta Diri Sendiri’ doesn’t feel like a call to shout that we must love ourselves all the time. Its message is much more down to earth. We can still love, we can still be disappointed, and we can still fight for someone. But if all those efforts still go one way, maybe we don’t need to keep looking for what’s lacking in ourselves. Sometimes it’s enough to just say, yaudah. Not because that person never meant anything, but because we ourselves also deserve not to be left behind continuously.
