Nakayama Festa, Takarazuka Kinen Winner and Umamusume Character Has Passed

Nakayama Festa, the 2010 Takarazuka Kinen victor and the model for an Umamusume character, has died. The male horse was 20. At the start of this month, Urakawa Yushun Village AERU (a retirement farm for racehorses) announced on X that Nakayama Festa was unwell. The ex‑racehorse’s condition kept worsening and by 22 August he could not stand. After vets examined him they found there was no treatment possible. The former champion passed away on 23 August, surrounded by staff and caretakers.

In the message, Urakawa Yushun Village AERU thanked everyone who backed Nakayama Festa throughout his racing days and up to his passing. The facility also requested that people stop contacting them and said they will notify admirers about any upcoming flower tributes.

The worldwide account for Umamusume: Pretty Derby sent sympathies to “all the staff who looked after Nakayama Festa”.

Nakayama Festa was foaled on 5 April 2006 by Stay Gold (sire) and Dear Wink (dam). He trained at the Miho Training Centre and debuted at Tokyo Racecourse. Over 15 starts he recorded 5 victories. His biggest win was the 2010 Takarazuka Kinen (G1), yet he is most remembered for his ^{runner‑up finish} in the 2010 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. In that event he fell just short by a neck, the closest a Japanese horse has ever come to lifting the classic.

Shino Shimoji provides the voice for Nakayama Festa in the Umamusume: Pretty Derby series. The title portrays him as a risk‑loving gambler who often hangs out with Gold Ship. He is the third Umamusume: Pretty Derby horse to die in 2026, and the fifth to do so this year.
