Thecuy.com – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained the Rector of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), Akhmad Sodiq, in an operation carried out on Thursday (20/8). The apprehension is linked to alleged receipt of funds by a public official during the admission process for new students.

Besides Akhmad Sodiq, the KPK apprehended eight other individuals and took them immediately to the KPK’s Red White Building for further questioning. A KPK spokesperson, Budi Prasetyo, stated that the arrest was part of a covert investigation into alleged receipt of money during new student admissions at Unsoed. The evidence seized included cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Akhmad Sodiq currently holds the status of a witness. The KPK has 1×24 hours to decide whether to upgrade his status to suspect. As a public official, Akhmad regularly files asset reports with the KPK through the Report of State Officials’ Wealth (LHKPN). The latest filing, recorded on 19 March 2026, declared total assets valued at Rp 3.1 billion.

- Four land parcels and a building in Banyumas City totalling Rp 2.5 billion
- Three transportation assets, comprising a 2015 Toyota Agya and a 2014 Toyota Innova, amounting to Rp 285.7 million

- Liabilities totalling Rp 175 million
Context and Implications
The case has attracted attention because it involves a senior official from a state university entrusted with maintaining academic integrity. Allegations of illegal exactions during new student admissions undermine public confidence in educational institutions and could jeopardise a fair and transparent admission system.
