A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage adapts a manga authored by Shinichi Sawaragi and illustrated by Tank Gasuyama, which is currently serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal. The series has passed 400,000 copies with six volumes released as of April 2026. Yen Press secured the English license and outlines the plot:
A forty-year-old detective, Eiji Kirisame, meets an unusual witness: a silent high‑school girl named Tsugumi Kuchinashi who was present at the crime scene. Her testimony consists mostly of crude sketches on a notepad, yet Eiji is experienced at deducing the truth from limited evidence, and Tsugumi seems to have a knack for deduction as well. He treats each drawing seriously for clues, but does the final sketch actually read…“Marry me?”?!
