Yaniko’s problems keep mounting. Ani‑One Asia announced it will pull Chainsmoker Cat from its YouTube channel. The firm cited “local government regulations in regional markets” as the reason and said it’s sorry for any inconvenience. Ani‑One’s decision to remove Yani Neko follows Anime Crazy’s move to take the series off its Hong Kong site. Anime Crazy noted that Hong Kong’s Department of Health found Chainsmoker Cat to breach sections 13B and 14 of the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance.
Ani‑One Asia didn’t name the specific rules that caused the series to be removed. However, the Philippines enforces several laws that ban the promotion of tobacco products on domestic TV, radio, and internet platforms. Thailand also prohibits tobacco advertising but allows unpaid depictions of tobacco use or products in TV, film, or other media.
Chainsmoker Cat Details
The Chainsmoker Cat anime is an adaptation of the manga by NyanNyanFactory. Yani Neko tells the story of Yaniko, a demi‑human catgirl with a severe nicotine addiction. The show frequently showcases Yaniko taking extreme (and comedic) steps to satisfy her habit. Several of her friends and neighbors are also regularly depicted smoking, drinking, and using illegal drugs.
Weekly Young Magazine (Kodansha) has been serializing the manga since its February 2023 debut. Kodansha has compiled the chapters into 13 tankobon volumes. Seven Seas Entertainment started releasing the English version in February 2025. Bibury Animation Studios handles animation production. Taku Kimura directs Chainsmoker Cat. The anime’s voice cast includes:
- Yuko Natsuyoshi as Yaniko Sato
- Misato Matsuoka as Yakuko Etsushimaru
- Yurie Funato as Hameko Easygoing Anal Angel
- Ayaka Shimizu as Kaoruko Nishi
- Shiori Izawa as Aruko Sakai
- Tetsu Inada as the Landlord
- Rina Honnizumi as Imoko
- Yuu Kobayashi as Penpen Neko

The series can be streamed on Netflix and OceanVeil.
