Oni Press and Magnetic Press have unveiled an English version of LOBA LOCA, a fresh graphic novel situated within the MFKZ universe crafted by Guillaume “Run” Renard and Guillaume Singelin. The work is being developed alongside France’s Label 619 and has just secured funding via Kickstarter.
LOBA LOCA centers on 17‑year‑old Guadalupe “Guada” Mayflower, whose routine is upended when a recorded outburst lands her under house arrest. While rummaging through her mother’s attic she stumbles upon a diary that reveals details about her lineage and uncovers her father’s name.
The diary propels Guada onto a journey through the city’s criminal underbelly, where she encounters luchadores, thugs and reality‑TV personalities while piecing together her ancestry. Though it exists within the MFKZ multiverse, the narrative zeroes in on Guada’s quest for self and the feeling of teenage estrangement.
Anime Corner has the exclusive chance to present a handful of preview pages, displayed right here.
Guillaume “Run” gave life to the Mutafukaz universe through the animated short Mutafukaz: Operation Blackhead, which later grew into a series of graphic novels. This world was turned into the 2017 animated film Mutafukaz, marketed abroad as MFKZ. The movie was produced by Ankama Animation and Studio 4°C and co‑directed by Run and Shojiro Nishimi.
Guillaume Singelin previously contributed to the MFKZ animated movie and has been involved in multiple projects for Label 619. His résumé also features the graphic novels PTSD and The Grocery, plus character design and illustration for the video game Citizen Sleeper. Meanwhile, Run is presently working on MFK2, a follow‑up series set in the same universe.
Magnetic Press will publish LOBA LOCA across three physical formats: a regular paperback, a Deluxe Hardcover, and a Limited Edition Slipcase version. The limited run comes with a foil‑stamped textured slipcase, a foil‑stamped bookplate, and a set of exclusive enamel pins.
The Kickstarter drive for LOBA LOCA has launched.
