Though I Am an Inept Villainess Light Novel Enters Its Final Arc

Ichijinsha has revealed that the light novel series Though I Am an Inept Villainess is set to begin its concluding story arc. The final arc, titled “Hoshi ni Negai O” (i.e., “Wish Upon a Star”), will launch with the 13^th volume. Ichijin Novels has scheduled the 13^th volume for release on September 30.

Satsuki Nakamura originally posted Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly‑Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court on the Shosetsuka ni Naro platform in July 2020. Later that year, Ichijinsha acquired the rights and released the story as a light novel illustrated by Kana Yuki under their Ichijin Novels imprint. In the same year, Ei Ohitsuji adapted the novel into a manga featured in Monthly Comic Zero Sum. Both the manga and the novels are published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.

The light novel was adapted into a summer 2026 anime by Doga Kobo. Crunchyroll simulcasts the series, while Netflix, Bilibili Asia, and Disney+ also stream it in select territories.

The story follows Kou Reirin, a delicate maiden who is expected to become the kingdom’s queen consort, or so it seems. Unfortunately, a jealous court maiden named Shu Keigetsu resorts to forbidden magic and swaps their souls. Now trapped in Shu’s body, Kou cannot speak of what happened, but it hardly matters; her new form is strong and lets her do everything she couldn’t before. The hardships of being Shu pale in comparison to the joys of her newfound physicality!
