2026 HARGAI event: Creative Economy Minister urges public to support and play local games

The Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, urged the Indonesian gaming industry to boost competitiveness and broaden global market access during the 10th Hari Game Indonesia (HARGAI) at Garuda Sparks Innovation Hub, FX Sudirman, Jakarta, on Saturday (8/8).

The 2026 HARGAI event marks a joint effort among the Ministry of Creative Economy, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), the DKI Jakarta Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf), the Indonesian Game Association (AGI), and the Indonesian Board Game Industry Practitioners Association (APIBGI) to reinforce the national gaming ecosystem.

“The application and gaming subsector grew by 18.22 percent compared to the previous year. This growth is certainly significant as it absorbs labor, supported by the Ministry of Creative Economy’s programs to boost investment. The required approach is through collaboration between the government and stakeholders to effectively accelerate and commercialize, thereby enabling more Indonesian games to enter the global market,” said Teuku Riefky during a panel session.

He believes that strengthening the gaming industry depends not only on talent development and game production but also requires expanding market access and promotion. The Ministry of Creative Economy previously showcased local games through Games Corner at Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport and brought 10 Indonesian games to the Gameseed event to open up international market opportunities.

“We are optimistic that local games can develop a healthier ecosystem and generate a multiplier economic effect,” he added.

The President of AGI, Shafiq Husein, noted that over the past decade the Indonesian gaming industry has shown rapid growth, despite still facing various challenges. In his view, appreciating local works does not mean considering all Indonesian creations superior, but rather providing developers space to experiment, learn, and compete based on quality.
