Thecuy.com, Jawa Barat – A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude struck the southwestern part of Pangandaran Regency on Wednesday evening at 21.55 WIB. The tremor was felt across several areas in West Java, covering Bandung Regency and Sukabumi.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the sea, roughly 87 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran, at a depth of 14 kilometers. BMKG’s modeling confirms that the quake carries no tsunami risk.

The BMKG Director of Earthquake and Tsunami, Dr. Wijayanto, stated that the quake was a shallow seismic event triggered by an active fault line with an oblique‑thrust fault mechanism. The intensity of the shaking, as reported by the public, is detailed below:
- Level III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale was observed in several Bandung Regency districts, including Kertasari, Baleendah, Dayeuhkolot, Majalaya, Arjasari, Nagrak, and Solokanjeruk.
- Intensities II to III MMI were felt in Soreang, Sukabumi Regency, Sukabumi City, Pangalengan, and Ciwidey.
- Intensity II MMI was reported in Sumedang, Parongpong, Cihanjuang, Ngamprah, Lembang, and Pelabuhanratu.
