MAJALENGKA, Thecuy.com – The threat of narcotics trafficking keeps evolving.

If it was once synonymous with secret transactions, now syndicates are beginning to take advantage of social media, encrypted messaging apps and even vapes as entry points for drug abuse.

This was conveyed by the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Commissioner General Pol. Dr. (H.C.) Suyudi Ario Seto, S.I.K., M.Si, when he served as the main speaker at the National General Lecture with the theme Building Youth Resilience in the Face of Narcotics Threats at the Auditorium of Majalengka University, Thursday (6/8/2026).

The event was attended by the Regent of Majalengka, Drs. H. Eman Suherman, M.Si, the Rector of Majalengka University, Dr. H. Otong Syuhada, S.H., M.H., the regional apparatus representatives of Majalengka Regency, students, and the general public.

Suyudi emphasized that the war against narcotics is not only the duty of law enforcement officers, but the responsibility of all elements of society.

“The war against narcotics is the responsibility of all of us, the community, religious leaders, and students as agents of change and the nation’s successors,” he asserted.

According to him, strengthening the literacy and resilience of young people is the main barrier against the threat of drug abuse and illegal trafficking.

Campuses are considered to have a strategic role in producing generations capable of becoming prevention agents in their environment.

He reminded that Indonesia’s Golden Dream 2045 will not be achieved if the quality of human resources is damaged by narcotics.

“A developed country is not only about skyscrapers, toll roads or magnificent airports. All of that loses its meaning if managed by human resources who lose their character, integrity, and productivity due to drugs,” he explained.

Majalengka, he said, has a strategic position because of the existence of Kertajati International Airport and the toll road network.

BNN recorded that the development of narcotics crimes is now increasingly complex.

International syndicates utilize digital technology, legal logistics services, modern financial systems and even digital assets to disguise transactions.

According to the 2026 World Drug Report from UNODC, around 331 million people worldwide used narcotics throughout 2024.

Meanwhile, data from BRIN and BPS shows that the prevalence of drug abuse in Indonesia reaches 2.11 percent, or an estimated 4.15 million productive-age individuals.
