Penulis skenario film pertama, Zak Penn, baru-baru ini berbicara dengan The Direct dan memberikan kabar segar. Ketika ditanya tentang perkembangan Ready Player Two, dia menjawab dengan santai namun yakin, “Saya sedang mengerjakannya.”
Sayangnya, dia belum memberikan informasi tentang jadwal syuting atau perilisan. Namun, setidaknya proyek ini masih hidup!

Behind the good news about the script being written, Ready Player Two has a huge PR issue: Steven Spielberg is confirmed not to direct this sequel.
Yes, the sci-fi legend who made the first film a huge success will only serve as a producer. Reportedly, the director, who will turn 80 this year, is busy wanting to direct a Western film.
Why is this such a big problem? Well, Ready Player One is packed with CGI, famous cameos, and references to 80s pop culture. In the hands of the wrong director, a film like this can easily feel cringe, over the top, and just cashing in on nostalgia.
But because the one who directed it before was Spielberg (the person who literally shaped 80s pop culture through films like E.T. and Jurassic Park), the film gained soul and emotional connection. Finding a replacement director who can match Spielberg’s magic is extremely difficult. Proof of this, all the Jaws sequels or early Jurassic Park sequels (which weren’t directed by him) couldn’t match the quality of the original films.
Now, the biggest question is: Who is the director bold enough (and capable) of taking the baton from Steven Spielberg to work on the world of OASIS? The hope is that Spielberg will directly choose his successor so the sequel isn’t a disaster.
