TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com — A massive fire broke out in a warehouse of used goods or scrap located on Jalan Sambongjaya, Sambongjaya Village, Mangkubumi District, Tasikmalaya City, on Tuesday (4/8/2026) evening.
The fire, suspected to be caused by an electrical short circuit, rapidly engulfed piles of flammable materials, leading the firefighting process to take about two hours.
The incident occurred at around 17.45 WIB. The warehouse, owned by Saepul Kamal, was known to store various used items such as plastic, cardboard, iron, metal, and vehicle parts. Additionally, an operational vehicle was also affected when the flames raged.

According to witness Peri, the flames were first seen at the back of the warehouse. Within minutes, the fire grew larger and consumed the entire building and its contents.
“I saw the fire already blazing high from inside the warehouse, then it quickly grew and burned the entire building,” the witness told reporters.
Meanwhile, witness Farhan Hidayatulloh said he was the last person to leave the warehouse at around 17.00 WIB. At that time, the warehouse was already locked and sealed.
Initial information gathered by officials suggests a suspected electrical short circuit. However, the exact cause of the fire is still awaiting police investigation results.
Head of II Police Section of Tasikmalaya City Ipda Rivanto Jaki SH MH said that they received a report shortly before Maghrib and immediately deployed combined personnel to the scene.
“As for the exact cause, we are still conducting further investigation. Initial information from witnesses points to a suspected electrical short circuit in the scrap warehouse,” he said.
Rivanto said that 20 combined personnel from Tasikmalaya City Police and Mangkubumi Police were deployed to secure the site, conduct a crime scene (TKP) sweep, and assist in the evacuation process.

The police also immediately coordinated with PLN to cut off the electricity supply to avoid a greater risk.
“Our priority is public safety. We immediately sealed off the area to prevent residents from approaching the site as there were concerns of potential dangers,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Tasikmalaya City BPBD, Budi Martanova, explained that the extinguishing process involved more than 30 combined personnel with support from seven fire trucks and three water supply vehicles.
