TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Behind the lingering stigma attached to individuals with mental disorders, the Mentari Hati Foundation of Tasikmalaya City has discovered a simple yet highly effective approach.
Regular music therapy provided to the Soul Friends has been shown to boost self‑confidence, foster togetherness and uncover hidden talents.
The founder and manager of the Mentari Hati Foundation, Dadang Heryadi, stated that music therapy is more than just entertainment. The activity serves as an effective medium for emotional recovery for the residents.

“In my view, it’s more effective because it creates togetherness and happiness among them,” he said after receiving a visit from the social groups Seven Barber Shop and Mojang Jajaka Kota Tasikmalaya on Monday (27/7/2026).
“It turned out that music therapy brought out the talent of the Soul Friends. Now about 16 of them excel at singing, even producing better voices than we do,” he added.
Currently, the Mentari Hati Foundation cares for around 260 Soul Friends with various mental health conditions.
Dadang noted that most of them have shown positive progress after participating in various rehabilitation programs, including music therapy.
Moreover, he said, five individuals who have reunited with their families chose to return to the foundation to serve and assist in guiding other Soul Friends.
“Alhamdulillah, there are five alumni who have reunited with their families, yet they have come back here to help us serve,” he said.
Not only that, the use of social media is also seen as a bridge to reconnect Soul Friends with families they have long lost contact with.

“Numerous individuals have been reunited with their families after we posted photos and information on social media. Some who had been missing for five, six, or even ten years were eventually found,” Dadang said.
This music therapy session was also accompanied by a social initiative from Mojang Jajaka Kota Tasikmalaya.
Ahmad Gading and Sabela Putri, who will compete in the Mojang Jajaka provincial pageant for West Java representing Tasikmalaya City, were also present.
Mojang Jajaka Pinilih Kota Tasikmalaya, Ahmad Gading, said that the activity reflects their commitment to ensure that the social programs they run reach all segments of society regardless of background.
