TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com — The Village Empowerment and Community Development (PMD) Agency of Tasikmalaya Regency is hinting that a digital framework could be introduced for the 2027 village head elections, though a full rollout across every polling station is still pending due to funding, human‑resource, and supporting‑facility constraints.

Agus Sutisna, secretary of the Tasikmalaya Regency PMD Office, speaking on behalf of director M Fuad Abdul Aziz ST MP, noted that the concept of digital village elections is still under study and will be tailored to the region’s capacity.

“A digital system might be employed, but not all polling stations will use it. The implementation will hinge on available funds and other resources,” he said when asked for comment on Tuesday (21/7/2027).

According to Agus, deploying digital technology aims to boost the efficiency of the village election process, speed up the recapitulation stage, and improve vote‑counting accuracy. Nevertheless, the local government will not roll it out until every technical requirement is confirmed ready.

To illustrate, Agus cited the example of the village elections in Indramayu Regency, where a digital system has been used on a limited basis.

“In Indramayu Regency, only one polling station per village employs a digital system. Hence, the rollout is phased and adjusted to each area’s circumstances,” he noted.

He clarified that implementing digital village elections requires sufficient facilities and infrastructure. Village governments and organising committees must provide digital devices, a reliable internet connection, data security systems, and backup power sources. These needs can be met either by procuring equipment directly or by leasing it from service vendors.

Additionally, computers or tablets together with secure voting‑management applications are needed to ensure a smooth and trustworthy voting process.

Agus stressed that the regional government has not yet determined how many polling stations will adopt the digital system. Ongoing studies are assessing financial capacity, human‑resource readiness, and the practicality of field implementation.

Coordination with village authorities and other stakeholders will also be carried out to ensure that the village elections comply with all relevant legal regulations.

In his view, a phased rollout is the most realistic approach, giving committees and citizens ample time to adjust to using technology in village‑level democratic processes.
