CIAMIS, Thecuy.com – The Ciamis Regency’s Population Control, Family Planning, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (DP2KBP3A) urges parents and teachers to be more alert to language that might trigger bullying among students.

One such term is “boti”, which has recently become popular on social media and is now being used as a joke in schools.

According to DP2KBP3A, using this term should not be taken lightly as it can cause offence and lead to verbal bullying that affects children’s psychological well‑being.

“Even when words are deliberately repeated, such as calling a peer “boti”, it can cause emotional pain and be considered bullying that harms both body and mind,” said Elis Lismayani SKM Bdn MM, Head of PPPA DP2KBP3A Ciamis Regency, to Radar on Sunday (19/7/2026).

Elis explained that the term carries a negative connotation and is unsuitable for use by children and students, linking its spread to the influence of easily accessible social‑media content for school‑age youths.

She acknowledged that school‑age children now browse social media, making it difficult to restrict their access to information and digital content.

She noted “boti” frequently appears on social media and has become a joke in schools; she learned this during a school outreach on preventing violence against children and women when pupils mentioned the term.

Consequently, she urges parents and teachers to keep guiding children to use social media wisely, direct them to consume positive content, avoid copying negative behaviour and reinforce religious values.

“Thus they can develop internal restraints or filters for positive content that protect themselves and improve academic performance and life skills,” she said.

In addition to bullying, Elis stresses the importance of strengthening religious and moral education to safeguard young people from actions deemed inconsistent with Indonesia’s religious and cultural values, including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+).
