Reality Sometimes Lies by Niichi will become an anime debuting in 2027. The mangaka also released two special commemorative illustrations.
The series first appeared on Niichi’s X (formerly Twitter) feed in 2018. Kadokawa’s Chukei Publishing is compiling the chapters into volumes; eight are currently available. J‑Novel Club is handling the English release, describing the first volume as follows:
Rin Takeda is an MMORPG enthusiast who finally meets his long‑time online friend in person. Worried that his male appearance will disappoint his friend—whose in‑game avatar is female—he’s shocked when the person arriving is actually a adorable girl named Yui Sakuraba. Yui has already told her parents she’s bringing a female companion, and her overprotective father bans any boys from her vicinity. The only escape for Rin is to disguise himself as a girl. Will his cross‑dress gamble succeed? Will Rin and Yui stay just friends, or will real‑world interactions change everything? Follow their hilarious dating‑sim misadventures and find out!
