JAKARTA – MAKI coordinator Boyamin Saiman praised President Prabowo Subianto for his swift action in defusing controversy surrounding the handling of an alleged corruption case involving former Special Criminal Investigations Prosecutor, Febrie Adriansyah.

Boyamin said the decision to transfer the case from the Police Corruption Eradication Squad (Kortas Tipikor) to the Attorney General’s Office was a strategic move to maintain the effectiveness of law enforcement.

“I extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to President Prabowo for taking prompt action to ease the controversy over the handling of the alleged corruption case,” Boyamin said on Sunday (12/7/2026).

He argued that if the case remained with the police through to the final stage, various obstacles could arise because the next steps would still involve the Attorney General’s Office as the prosecuting body. Conversely, transferring the case to the Attorney General’s Office from the outset could make the handling of the case more effective.

Boyamin added that the move could prevent the perception of rivalry among law‑enforcement officials. He was concerned that keeping the case within the police would widen the scope of controversy and distract from anti‑corruption efforts.

“If it were processed by the police, it would create the impression of conflict, rivalry, and even mutual exposure of each agency’s weaknesses. Such a situation would not be conducive to anti‑corruption efforts,” he said.

Boyamin maintained that handling the case through the Attorney General’s Office, even when the suspect was an insider of the institution, would ensure a more orderly legal process, thereby achieving the goal of eradicating corruption without causing public unrest.

He also saw the President’s move as a demonstration of leadership in coordinating all law‑enforcement officials and government agencies to work toward a common goal.

“That is indeed the President’s duty: managing the government, coordinating his assistants, including the Chief of Police, the Attorney General, and ministers, so that governance functions well, especially in combating corruption,” he said.

Boyamin described the President’s move as an elegant decision because it returned the case to what he considered a more conducive path. He hoped that the legal process involving Febrie Adriansyah would be professional, transparent, and remain within the legal framework.

Previously, the head of the Police Corruption Squad, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, announced the transfer of three alleged corruption cases involving Febrie Adriansyah to the Attorney General’s Office. The transfer also included another private suspect, Don Ritto. Totok said the move was taken “to promote synergy” among law‑enforcement agencies.
