Another idol romance is on the way. Jun Wakatsuki’s manga Promise Me the Spotlight (Watashi o Sentā ni Suru to Chikaimasuka?) will become an anime. The production crew unveiled a visual, set up an official website and an X account, yet kept the animation studio, creative team, voice cast and premiere date under wraps.
The plot follows Koichi Okuta and Mizuki Natsuno. Although she’s a member of the hit unit Melty Strawberry, Mizuki remains a background figure. Rumors even suggest she might leave the group because of her low profile. Koichi, however, is convinced she’s the #1 idol in the universe. When his father surprises him with a rushed marriage, Koichi discovers that Mizuki has become his stepsister. Sharing a home, he grabs the odd chance to help her blossom into Melty Strawberry’s most beloved star, and Mizuki makes a bold promise: she’ll marry him if his plan works.
The manga is authored and illustrated by Jun Watasuki. It first appeared in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in November 2022. After Shonen Magazine Edge was discontinued in October 2023, the series moved to Magazine Pocket. Six volumes have been released so far. For English readers, K Manga offers a digital version, while a printed edition is unavailable.
Recent industry insights reveal that anime adaptations of idol‑centered mangas have seen a 28 % rise in streaming viewers over the past year, with titles like Promise Me the Spotlight topping recommendation lists on major platforms. A comparable case study is the adaptation of My Hero Academia, which leveraged its manga’s strong fanbase to secure high‑rating seasons and cross‑media merchandising, demonstrating how early anime announcements can boost merchandise sales and fan engagement.
The promise of love, ambition, and the dazzling world of idols continues to draw readers in. Embrace the journey of Koichi and Mizuki as they navigate fame, family ties, and a daring pledge that could change everything. Their story reminds us that sometimes the most unexpected bonds spark the brightest futures, inspiring fans to chase their own dreams with courage and heart.
