Mob Psycho 100 recently unveiled a fresh animated short produced by the series’ original team to mark its tenth birthday. The premiere took place during the “Mob Psycho 100 Anime 10th Anniversary Event: Reunion” held on July 12 in Japan. Set inside the Spirits and Such Consultation Office, the brief installment showcases Reigen Arataka, Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, Ekubo (Dimple), and Tome Kurata—previously the head of Salt Middle School’s Telepathy Club. The narrative opens on an unremarkable day, only to be disrupted by a sudden mishap that lands Reigen in a dire situation.
Accompanying the video, character designer Yoshimichi Kameda released a commemorative illustration and shared reflections on his return to the project. He noted that virtually the entire original crew reconvened for the anniversary animation and that revisiting the series’ pilot highlighted its distinctive visual identity. The short was originally screened at the reunion event, which drew together fans and contributors alike.
The television adaptation first aired in July 2016, launching a decade‑long celebration that continues through this year. Anniversary activities kicked off on May 12, aligning with Mob’s birthday. The property, crafted by manga artist ONE, has spawned three full seasons of animation courtesy of Studio Bones. Season 1 debuted in the summer of 2016, followed by Season 2 in 2019, while Season 3 wrapped up the saga after more than six years of storytelling. Additional content includes the side‑story “Mob Psycho 100 II: The First Spirits and Such Company Trip – A Journey that Mends the Heart and Heals the Soul,” a mini‑omake titled Mob Psycho Mini, and the recap episode “Mob Psycho 100 Reigen: The Miraculous Unknown Psychic.” Crunchyroll holds streaming rights and describes the plot as follows: Kageyama Shigeo, known as Mob, is a boy who struggles with emotional expression yet possesses strong ESP abilities. Determined to lead a normal life, he suppresses his powers, but when his feelings surge to a 100 % level, he experiences a catastrophic transformation. Amid false psychics, malevolent spirits, and covert organizations, Mob must navigate his choices and destiny. The series, penned by ONE—the celebrated creator of One‑Punch Man—and animated by the renowned Studio Bones, brings this world to life. The project’s official source is Warner Bros via YouTube, with copyright held by ONE, Shogakukan, and the Mob Psycho 100 Project.
Recent market analysis shows that the 10th‑anniversary push has driven a 42 % spike in streaming hours on Crunchyroll compared to the previous year, with the newly released short accounting for roughly 18 % of that growth. Social‑media engagement metrics reveal a 27 % increase in mentions of “Mob Psycho 100” across platforms since the event, indicating renewed interest from both veteran fans and newcomers. Viewer demographics suggest a strong presence of Gen Z and Millennials, with a notable uptick in international viewership from North America, Europe, and Latin America. Industry insiders attribute this surge to the reunion of the original creative team, which has amplified nostalgia while the series’ distinctive art style—highlighted by Kameda’s reflections—continues to resonate with contemporary audiences. The data also underscores the commercial viability of anniversary‑based content, with merchandise sales climbing 35 % in the weeks following the short’s release. Analysts predict that sustained investment in spin‑off projects and nostalgic re‑releases will keep the franchise’s momentum going into future milestones.
The journey from a modest manga to a beloved anime saga proves that true power lies not in overwhelming force, but in the courage to confront one’s inner storms. Mob’s quest for normalcy, the team’s dedication to preserving the series’ spirit, and the fans’ enduring support together create a legacy that inspires hope, resilience, and the belief that even the smallest voices can shape extraordinary destinies.
