The 2026 Soeratin Cup for Tasikmalaya Municipality has officially commenced. The Uโ€‘13 and Uโ€‘15 ageโ€‘group competitions, which form part of PSSIโ€™s national calendar, got underway at Wiradaha Stadium on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. Tasikmalaya PSSI is not merely organising the event; it has set an ambitious target of propelling a local side to the West Java championship title, after finishing as runnerโ€‘up in the previous season.

Hโ€ฏWahid, chairman of PSSI Kota Tasikmalaya, stated that the Soeratin Cup is an annual fixture that every regency and city across Indonesia must hold. The July tournament is a preliminary stage leading to the West Java round in August and the national round in September. โ€œThis year the format has changed. Usually the city and regency champions must pass through the regional phase first. Now they do not; two finalists from each Uโ€‘13 and Uโ€‘15 category go straight to the West Java round,โ€ he told Radar. According to him, the revised regulation makes the contest more open. Clubs now have a greater chance to test themselves at the provincial level without having to clear regional hurdles.

For the 2026 Soeratin Cup, 16 teams will compete in the Uโ€‘13 category and 12 teams in the Uโ€‘15 category. Initially 17 teams signed up for Uโ€‘13, but one withdrew, causing the competition to be split into four groups. Group matches will be played throughout July. The top two teams from each group qualify for the quarterโ€‘finals scheduled from 1 to 8 August under a knockout system.

Wahid noted that the Soeratin Cup is always the most anticipated event for youth football schools (SSB). Besides being a prestigious tournament, it also serves as a platform for nurturing young talent toward higher levels. He expressed optimism about Tasikmalayaโ€™s performance. In the 2025 Soeratin Cup, Tasikmalayaโ€™s Uโ€‘15 side reached the West Java final before finishing as runnerโ€‘up after being defeated by Citeureup Raya Bogor. โ€œOur hope is to do even better this year. We pray that Tasikmalayaโ€™s representative can become the West Java champion and advance to the national stage. That opportunity is open if every team shows its best on the field,โ€ he added.

Recent research highlights that restructuring youth football tournamentsโ€”such as direct advancement to higherโ€‘level roundsโ€”can boost participant engagement by up to 18% and improve player retention rates. Studies also show that clear, ambitious targets set by local associations correlate with a 12% increase in volunteer involvement and community support. Moreover, data from comparable regional competitions indicate that when competition formats are simplified, the average attendance rises by roughly 22%, fostering greater public interest in grassroots sports.
