Texas – A 5-year-old boy named Liam Conejo Ramos, along with his father Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, has been released from a detention center in Dilley, Texas. This development was shared by Joaquin Castro, a Democratic congressman from Texas, who confirmed the news via BBC on Monday (2/2/2026).

Castro stated that both Liam and his father were repatriated to Minneapolis after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “Liam is now back home, carrying his backpack and belongings,” Castro added.

The release of the father-son pair sparked public outcry outside the detention facility, drawing widespread national attention. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) clarified that ICE actions were not targeted at children.

The 10-day detention of Liam and his father in Texas, located hundreds of miles from their home, ended after a federal judge ordered their release on Saturday (31/1). The Trump administration had initially aimed to justify their detention by citing the father’s alleged attempt to evade ICE agents.

Previously, a federal judge had mandated the immediate release of Liam and his father from the Texas detention center. The family had been held for over a week by immigration authorities.

According to CNN, reported on Sunday (1/2/2026), Liam and his father were transported by ICE agents from their home in Minneapolis, a snowy location, to the Texas facility via a 1,300-mile journey. They had been detained for more than a week.

The family’s legal representative confirmed in a statement, “We are coordinating with the family to ensure a safe and timely reunion.” They also expressed relief, noting, “The family can now focus on reuniting and finding peace after this traumatic experience.”

The case highlights ongoing debates about immigration policies and their impact on families. Advocacy groups continue to push for reforms to prevent similar situations.

This story underscores the urgent need for compassionate approaches in handling cross-border cases. Every individual deserves dignity and fair treatment, regardless of circumstances.
