After the recent announcement of a live‑action version of MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES, Mackenyu has been cast as the lead character Mash Burnedead, with Yuichi Fukuda helming the direction. The movie will launch in Japanese theaters on March 19, 2027. Mackenyu’s latest gig saw him playing Roronoa Zoro in the ONE PIECE live‑action series.
A teaser image and an additional teaser clip have surfaced. The material features Mackenyu portraying Mash receiving the counterfeit facial marking that hides his magic‑less condition, plus a shot of him doing bench presses.
Mackenyu revealed that he devoted roughly three years to physical conditioning for the part once he got the offer. He also spoke about the difficulty of playing Mash, a largely emotionless hero, while still communicating the character’s essence through his impressive muscle power.
Fukuda, known for previous live‑action adaptations such as Gintama and Wotakoi: Love Is Hard, stated he handed the part to Mackenyu soon after the green‑light arrived. He described the lineup as the most formidable crew he’s assembled, noting that several cast members were collaborating with him for the first time.

The inaugural season of Mashle: Magic and Muscles concluded in June after a 12‑episode run. The second season also consisted of 12 episodes, airing in Winter 2024 and focusing on the Divine Visionary Selection Exam Arc. The forthcoming storyline, titled the Tri‑Magic‑Athalon Divine Visionary Final Exam Arc, is slated to launch in January 2027 as Season 3.
