TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The Culamega sub-district government partnered with the Indonesian Sheep and Goat Breeders Association (HPDKI), KNPI, and Culamega Muspika to hold a Patok Festival at Cibaros Field, Cikuya Village, Culamega Sub-district, on Friday (30/10/2026).

The event, organized to commemorate Youth Pledge Day at the Culamega sub-district level, was attended by 150 sheep and goat farmers. Several competition categories were held, including Petet, Raja Kasep, Ratu Bibit, and Local Goat.

This activity not only serves as a platform for preserving livestock practices but also aims to stimulate the local economy. The committee also organized a low-cost market and a UMKM Fair to ensure that small entrepreneurs and local traders could reap economic benefits from the event.

The head of Culamega sub-district, Uu Saeful Uyun, stated that the Garut Sheep Patok Festival serves a crucial purpose: preserving genetic diversity and upholding local livestock culture. Nevertheless, amid an unfavorable economic climate, the event also aims to bolster the community’s economy.

“Therefore, this activity is designed to boost economic growth in the community, as raising Garut sheep is currently the most economically resilient and promising business, especially when MSMEs are experiencing sluggishness,” Uu said.

According to him, Garut sheep possess high economic value, making them a potential source for strengthening the community’s economy, particularly for farmers.

Looking ahead, Uu hopes that farmers can develop their businesses in a more innovative manner, without relying solely on the livestock sector. They are encouraged to combine livestock farming with other productive activities, such as vegetable gardening, to achieve a more diverse income source.

Uu assessed that the success of the event was inseparable from the collaboration between the Culamega sub-district government, KNPI, HPDKI, Muspika, and community leaders.

“We encourage KNPI, during this Youth Pledge momentum, to increase its contribution to local potential, thereby generating economic impacts for the wider community,” said Uu.

He hopes that the Patok Festival can serve as a catalyst for the community’s economic revival through the development of the sheep and goat livestock sector. In addition to motivating farmers, the event is expected to boost local economic potential, fostering further growth.
