TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The Tasikmalaya Regency Government is stepping up community readiness to tackle fire hazards by establishing village-level Firefighter Volunteer (REDKAR) units.
Fifty residents from five villages in Singaparna District participated in the 2026 REDKAR formation and training session held at Cipakat Village Hall on Tuesday (27/10/2026).
The volunteer program is part of the regional government’s strategy to boost community involvement in preventing and managing initial fire incidents, especially within residential areas.
Tens of thousands of congregants were engrossed in Tasikmalaya Bershalawat at Manonjaya Square. Council member Iyam Maryani urged enhanced child oversight, citing the Bantarkalong Tasikmalaya girl case as a cautionary tale.
The Head of Governance at the Tasikmalaya Regency Setda, Agianto Ahmad Tahir, S.STP., M.Si., who attended the event, said that the presence of REDKAR at the village level is expected to bolster community preparedness in confronting emergencies.
Through this training, residents are equipped with knowledge about the duties and roles of fire volunteers, emphasizing the importance of spotting potential hazards and taking initial actions when a fire occurs.
The establishment of REDKAR also aims to nurture community concern for environmental safety.
“Community readiness is a crucial element in fire prevention and response. Therefore, strengthening citizen involvement through village-level volunteers is essential,” he said.
The volunteers are expected to expedite information dissemination during fire incidents while encouraging residents to implement preventive measures before the flames grow.
“Prevention must start within one’s own surroundings. Residents need to understand fire risks and know the initial steps to take when confronting an emergency,” he said.
In addition to the volunteer formation, the event also featured the presentation of Regent of Tasikmalaya Decree No. 100.2.1/Kep.63-Tapem/2026 concerning the Delegation of Certain Authorities from the Regent to the District Head in the Sub-Division of Disasters and Sub-Division of Firefighting. The decree was enacted on October 26, 2026.
A Gerindra mobile medical team visited Cineam in Tasikmalaya, offering complimentary health services to hundreds of locals. Concurrently, with schools becoming unsafe, Indonesian MP Ahmad Doli Kurnia highlighted bullying cases that have led to fatalities.
The authority transfer is part of enhancing the sub-district’s role in governance, especially concerning disaster management and firefighting.
In practice, coordination among the regency government, sub-district office, village administration, and the community is essential for more focused fire prevention and handling efforts.
“Collaboration among the regional government, sub-district, village authorities, and the community is needed to build a safer environment and improve readiness for emergencies,” he stated.
