TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – New collaborations between higher‑education institutions and multinational industry partners are beginning to unlock fresh prospects for local business operators.

It goes beyond exchanging knowledge in lecture halls; the partnership among Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) from the Philippines, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Tasikmalaya campus, and the Regional Economic Development Foundation (REDEF) is intended to unlock export pathways, investment chances, and business growth toward the Philippine market.

The initiative was highlighted during the Strategic Partnership Meeting: A Collaboration Between SLSU, REDEF, and UPI Tasikmalaya Campus, held on Tuesday (20/10/2026).

During the gathering, the SLSU delegation toured several companies and educational institutions in Tasikmalaya City to directly explore cooperation opportunities.

The head of REDEF, Santi N. Susanti, stated that the exploratory discussions revealed diverse collaboration potentials across different sectors.

From the manufacturing sector, food and beverage (F&B) industry, to vocational education, each area holds promise for evolving into cross‑border business partnerships.

In the manufacturing realm, for instance, the Indihiang‑based MSME Twilly, focusing on garments and handbags, is exploring the possibility of supplying merchandise products to SLSU.

The items also have the potential to be showcased to other Philippine higher‑education institutions via the university’s network.

“In addition to being a merchandise supplier, there is an opportunity to open a new market in the Philippines via direct exports,” said Santi.

According to her, Twilly has actually been selling to overseas markets via online platforms, including Shopee.

Nevertheless, the joint exploration with SLSU reveals an opening to develop a direct export pathway (direct export).

REDEF also stands a chance to assume a coordinating role in export development assistance, ranging from enhancing marketing strategies to exploring transactions with partners in the Philippines.

The next phase will be carried out via communication with business owners and the preparation of product samples and specifications.

Another opportunity emerges from the culinary sector. Siloka, a coffee business operator in Tasikmalaya, received an offer to explore opening an outlet through a franchising scheme in the Philippines.

Santi clarified that SLSU is interested in the distinct flavor profile of Tasikmalaya coffee, which is considered different from the products they typically encounter.

The taste is regarded as having the potential to be introduced to Philippine consumers.
