TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The communal screening of football matches at cafes and restaurants presents a business opportunity to attract customers. However, despite the positive impact, there is a legal risk if proper licensing procedures are not followed.

The Chair of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) BPC for Tasikmalaya City, Hj. Susy Susanti, advises cafe owners against arbitrarily hosting football match screenings. Business owners must confirm that all required permits and event regulations have been satisfied prior to carrying out the activity.

Susy stated that, up to now, her office has not received any reports concerning communal screening events from business operators coordinated by PHRI Tasikmalaya City.

The roof of the stage for Tasikmalaya City’s anniversary celebration in Cihideung District collapsed due to wind; a red Xpander overturned on HZ Mustofa Street in Tasikmalaya City.

“Not yet, as for nobar events. Because there are rules for nobar, such as permission from the organizer. There’s been no report to us yet,” Susy said.

In her view, entrepreneurs should not solely concentrate on potential profit from a surge in visitors. Legal considerations must also be taken into account so that an activity originally intended to attract customers does not instead lead to legal complications.

“Therefore, cafe owners should first obtain the necessary permits. Everything to be carried out must be clear, so that it does not later disrupt our cafe business,” she said.

Susy believes that comprehending the regulations from the outset is a crucial step to safeguard business continuity. Moreover, the issue of using broadcast content without proper licensing can result in reprimands or lawsuits from rights holders.

“The permission process is not that complicated, but if we are sued, the payment could be huge, tens to hundreds of millions usually. That’s why we need to be careful,” she asserted.

A similar warning was issued by the Head of the Department of Youth, Sports, Culture, and Tourism (Disporabudpar) of Tasikmalaya City, Deddy Mulyana. He emphasized that every business activity must be conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, including the organization of communal football match screenings.

According to Deddy, the professionalism of football clubs and the management of broadcasting rights mean that organizing communal screenings requires attention to licensing provisions. Therefore, entrepreneurs must understand the rules before showing matches to visitors.
