TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The plan to tap the geothermal resources of Mount Galunggung has not yet been communicated to the public. Moreover, local authorities are not yet aware of the precise site chosen for the geothermal power plant (PTLP), and the central government has not disclosed the exact coordinates of the exploration area.
Nevertheless, according to local youth volunteers, rumors suggest the power plant will be situated between two villages: Sinagar and Linggajati.
Concerning this matter, Farhan Fuadi, Head of Environmental Division at the Tasikmalaya District Public Works, Transportation, Spatial Planning, and Environmental Agency, could not provide details, stating that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has not yet shared specific information with local governments.

Therefore, he said, local authorities cannot confirm whether the geothermal power plant site near Mount Galunggung will be close to residential areas.
“There is still no clear information from the central government. Local authorities will await precise data from the center, as the study and technical work in the field will be carried out by the central agency,” he explained.
He noted that the geothermal project for the Galunggung power plant offers several advantages. It will generate clean, stable, and renewable electricity. Additionally, geothermal energy produces lower emissions and is free from greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide, which have been driving global warming.
Moreover, as a renewable source, geothermal energy is said to be abundantly available for a very long term, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply that operates consistently 24 hours a day without depending on weather conditions, unlike solar or wind power.
Land use for geothermal plants is also considered more efficient compared to other renewable energy technologies. Promoting energy independence can lessen a nation’s reliance on imported fossil fuels and help maintain long‑term energy cost stability.
