Following the success of several video game adaptations on the big screen, Hollywood is now set to produce a live‑action version of Cyberpunk 2077.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is reportedly working on a live‑action film adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, set in the popular universe created by CD Projekt Red. The project will bring the futuristic Cyberpunk world to the big screen, although plot details and casting remain undisclosed.
During its development, Paramount Pictures has partnered with Lorenzo di Bonaventura as a producer. CD Projekt Red, the Polish game developer that owns the Cyberpunk franchise, is also involved in the project.
Live Action Cyberpunk 2077 Follows the Trail of Games Turned into Movies
The development of the live‑action Cyberpunk 2077 film comes as Hollywood becomes increasingly active in adapting video games into both movies and television series.
One notable example is The Last of Us, an HBO production adapted from the game by Naughty Dog and Sony. The series was crafted by Craig Mazin in collaboration with Neil Druckmann, one of the original game’s creators.
The success of such adaptations demonstrates that video game narratives can attract a broader audience when approached with the right strategy.
Cyberpunk 2077 places players in Night City, a dystopian megacity rife with advanced technology, luxury, body modification, and power struggles.
The main story follows V, a mercenary drawn into a hunt for a rare implant. The device holds the secret to immortality and becomes the focal point of a conflict that reshapes V’s life.
Amid a world dominated by corporations and technology, V must confront multiple threats while searching for ways to survive. The intricate setting is one of the game’s key appeals.
Set in Night City, Cyberpunk 2077 offers a wealth of compelling elements for a big‑screen adaptation, from cutting‑edge technology and corporate clashes to humanity’s relationship with body modification, providing a vast narrative canvas.
The announcement that a live‑action Cyberpunk 2077 is in development marks a new step for the franchise to broaden its story through film. However, there is still no further information on the director, production schedule, or release date.
Moreover, it remains unclear whether the live‑action film will adapt V’s story or introduce a new narrative within the Cyberpunk universe. Fans will have to await an official announcement regarding the cast and the film’s release schedule.
