TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com—After repeated incidents of it becoming an illegal dumping ground, the authorities together with local residents sealed off a section of the shoulder of Jalan Lukmanul Hakim in Cihideung District, Tasikmalaya City, by erecting a fence on Friday (9/10/2026). The measure was taken to make it clear that residents must stop discarding waste in that area.
The Sapu Lidi Team from the Department of Environmental Affairs (DLH) carried out a sweep of illegal dumping sites in several locations, including Jalan Lukmanul Hakim and Jalan AH Witono in Cihideung District, Jalan Utuy Sobandi in Cipedes District, and Jalan Brigjen Sutoko in Mangkubumi District.
At those four illegal sites, the DLH’s Sapu Lidi Team, together with community members, removed accumulated garbage that had built up due to irresponsible waste disposal by residents.

Specifically on Jalan Lukmanul Hakim, the team installed a lightweight steel fence extending roughly 20 metres, along with a banner prohibiting waste dumping in the area.
The Head of Waste Management at the Tasikmalaya City DLH, Feri Arif Maulana, said that his office has now formed a Sapu Lidi Team that operates every Tuesday and Friday, with the aim of tackling waste piles at illegal sites. “This team focuses on illegal dumping sites, but we will assist if there are problems at official sites,” he explained.
When asked about further actions for the illegal dumping site on Jalan Lukmanul Hakim, Feri said that the accumulation of waste there is already severe and recurrent. Therefore, a simple ban on dumping is not enough. “We have therefore taken the step of installing a barrier,” he said.
Regarding residents who dump waste there, Feri explained that the waste accumulation at the illegal site is mostly caused by outsiders passing through. Ultimately, the residents living near the location suffer the consequences. “This illegal dumping site certainly creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for the community,” he said.
After the illegal dumping site was fenced off, residents who frequently discard waste there should become wiser and more responsible. They should not simply dump waste indiscriminately at other points or create new illegal sites. “Because tackling this illegal dumping problem requires community awareness,” he said.
